Thank God—in breaking
Thank God—he never lingered long—
Nor sought to chase me—when I fell apart—
Thank God—my love—was not enough—
To bind me—unto something weightless, far
For had he glanced—a single breath—
I might have offered—all I held—
For less than nothing—less than soul—
A Queen—dethroned—by hands that quell
Thank God—for Silence—deep and pure—
It taught me how the silent hearts endure—
And waking—find a softer light—
Than any borrowed glow—a fading night—
Thank God—for Tears—that fell in vain—
They watered roots—soft as the rain—
And from the cracks—of broken ground—
A fuller bloom—rose upward, unbound—
Thank God—for Pain—it wore Love's face—
To turn my eyes—from stars in space—
To see within—what I had lost—
A world entire—beneath the frost—
So now—I thank myself—in truth—
For standing—when the world would fall—
For choosing me—when warmth withdrew
And loving all—within me— my whole.
